Mary Frances Kennedy died Sunday, January 22, 2012, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin, Tennessee. She was 96 and a retired school teacher, having taught for many years in the Memphis City School System. Frances was well known in Memphis, with many of her former students such as Elvis Presley, George Klein, and Red West also well known. She was a very respected home economics teacher.
Frances was born September 15, 1915, in the Stella Ruth Community just outside Martin.
Frances was a graduate of Martin High School and the University of Tennessee Knoxville. She was the first in her family to obtain a four-year college degree.
She was a wonderful cook who loved to prepare meals for her family. Following her retirement, she returned to Martin to the family farm. She was a member of the Bethel Church of Christ.
Frances is survived by two nephews George Kennedy of Martin and Brooks Kennedy of Fort Worth and her niece LaRee Brewer of Martin.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry and Mary Ruth Milner Kennedy; four brothers, John Add Kennedy, Kemp Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, and Larry Kennedy; and a sister Dathol Downs.
Her funeral is Wednesday, January 25, at Murphy Funeral Home with burial in East Side Cemetery in Martin.
